By Mark DaCosta- In a momentous decision that underscores the commitment to equity and representation, the National Congress of Women (NCW) Diaspora has officially endorsed Aubrey C. Norton as the presidential candidate for the People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR) ahead of the upcoming general elections on September 1, 2025. This endorsement, reached during their monthly meeting in June 2025, highlights the unyielding support for a leader deemed capable of steering our nation towards progress and prosperity.

The NCW, an arm of the PNCR, aims to advocate for the rights and interests of women while pushing for policies that foster inclusion and equality within society. This diverse coalition speaks for women from various backgrounds, particularly focusing on the unique challenges they face. By endorsing Norton, a political scientist and the current leader of the PNCR, the NCW expresses confidence not only in his abilities but in the broader vision of collective empowerment and transformation for the nation.

The group also heralded Juretha Fernandes as their preferred Prime Ministerial candidate, praising her as a promising young leader with commendable experience and leadership skills. As an Indigenous woman, Fernandes represents an important facet of our society, reinforcing the importance of diverse voices in leadership roles. Her commitment to improving the livelihood of citizens positions her as an indispensable member of the anticipated administration.

The NCW Diaspora extols the APNU’s commitment to inclusivity and diversity, reinforcing the assertion that this coalition can herald a new era marked by genuine development and democracy. The Vice-Presidential candidature of Ganesh Mahipaul was also met with enthusiasm, highlighting his extensive experience and respected political standing. This trio – Norton, Fernandes, and Mahipaul – is portrayed as a formidable force capable of tackling the pressing challenges facing our country.

With an affinity for social justice and equity, the NCW delineates Mr. Norton as an incorruptible leader devoted to the welfare of the populace. He boasts over five decades of unwavering service, affirming his dedication to the party and the people. The group resonates with Norton’s vision of transforming the lives of all citizens, particularly those marginalized by previous administrations. They envision a future where education is paramount, and everyone is recognised for their intrinsic worth rather than dehumanised by derogatory labels.

The promises made by Mr. Norton encompass essential aspects of governance, including safeguarding national sovereignty and providing access to quality healthcare. He promises to enhance the welfare of public servants and to establish a reformed police force accountable for its actions. The safety of children, security in food provisions, and the judicious management of the nation’s natural resources remain at the forefront of his agenda. By prioritising these issues, Mr. Norton conveys a commitment to restoring trust and ensuring that our resources serve the people rather than stagnate in bureaucratic red tape.

As women, mothers, and concerned citizens, the NCW articulates a profound sense of urgency regarding the safety of their children and justice for victims of violence. The endorsement signifies a collective call for a governmental framework that upholds fundamental rights and prevents harassment and exploitation, particularly against women. The role of Parliament, they argue, must evolve into a bastion of moral integrity, devoid of disrespectful practices.

In rallying support for the APNU, the NCW encourages all Guyanese, particularly women and youth, to unite behind this leadership team.
