The Alliance For Change (AFC) is calling on the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) to open the encoding and verification process of the Lists of Candidates to scrutiny by political party representatives and observers.

In a recent press statement, the AFC said the verification of the Lists—undertaken by encoders under the supervision of the Chief Election Officer (CEO)—must be done transparently and in the order the submissions were received. This process, according to the AFC, is crucial to confirm candidate eligibility, eliminate duplicates across lists, and verify regional nominator counts.

The party expressed concern over what it describes as a “pattern of favourable actions towards the People’s Progressive Party (PPP)” by GECOM and pointed to a recent incident in which the CEO allegedly misrepresented the order of contesting parties outside the Umana Yana. The AFC warned that such irregularities raise red flags about possible manipulation in the encoding process as well.

“As a contesting party in the September 2025 General and Regional Elections, interested in a fair and transparent process, we call on GECOM to permit the scrutiny of the verification process from start to finish by both party representatives and observers,” the AFC stated.

The party maintains that only by allowing such scrutiny can public trust in the electoral process be restored and protected.
