BEIJING, June 25 (Xinhua) — China’s top legislator Zhao Leji on Wednesday called on legislators to raise more targeted, insightful proposals and suggestions that would support the development of new quality productive forces.

Zhao, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the National People’s Congress (NPC) Standing Committee, made the remarks at a symposium where he exchanged views with non-voting deputy attendees of the 16th session of the 14th NPC Standing Committee.

Developing new quality productive forces has significant implications for driving high-quality development and advancing Chinese modernization, Zhao noted.

NPC deputies should consistently maintain close ties with the people, investigate the realities on the ground, understand public demand, propose practical and feasible solutions, and incorporate public opinion and collective wisdom into proposals, suggestions, and deliberations, he said.

Zhao also urged the lawmakers to strengthen learning so they could fulfill their duties, set an example in abiding by the Constitution and laws, and voluntarily subject themselves to oversight.
