By Mark DaCosta- The tragic revelation of the body of 48-year-old Jenny Mohamed has shocked Guyanese, leading to the arrest of her daughter, son-in-law, and reputed husband. This information has been confirmed by the Guyana Police Force (GPF), who continue to investigate the harrowing circumstances surrounding her alleged murder.

The investigation took a grim turn on June 19, when Jenny’s remains were discovered along Eccles New Road. She had been reported missing by her family on June 11, prompting initial police inquiries that would unearth a much darker narrative. The authorities believe that her death occurred in a violent outburst on June 10, in the familiar setting of her home in Non Pareil, East Coast Demerara, which, until that point, had been a place of family gatherings and daily life.

Deepening the inquiry into her disappearance, police launched an investigation following a report from her relatives who expressed concern when they could no longer reach Jenny. During their initial search of her home, investigators stumbled upon blood stains on various surfaces, which raised immediate suspicions and led to the rapid arrest of those closest to her. The suspects include her reputed husband, Rasheed Mohamed, along with her daughter, Saffia Mohamed, and son-in-law, Austin Ramchand.

The police report indicates that Saffia and Austin confessed to formulating a plan to kill Jenny after they claimed to have suffered from recurrent abuse at her hands. This distressing assertion points to a tragic cycle of violence that culminated in her brutal murder.

As the investigation unfolded, disturbing details began to paint a clearer picture. Eyewitnesses indicated that Jenny and Saffia had a fierce argument on June 9, during which seams of familial tension were exposed. Accounts suggest that Jenny, frustrated with her daughter’s living situation, ordered Saffia to move out. The following morning, Rasheed, who reportedly left for work while Jenny was at home with Saffia and Austin, would become unwittingly trapped in a web of deceit and violence that unravelled over the next several days.

The day following her disappearance, family members noticed the absence of any communication from Jenny — something that was decidedly out of character — prompting her sister to raise alarms. The family’s worsening concern finally compelled authorities to revisit the Mohamed home on June 16. Upon further inspection, police discovered extensive blood stains throughout the residence, concentrated on a couch, walls, and the floor. Investigators noted evident attempts to clean the areas..

Forensic tests confirmed human blood in numerous locations, which only deepened the enquiry. As the police secured the premises for a comprehensive forensic examination, they detained Rasheed, who was initially thought to have potential insights into his wife’s disappearance.

Over the next few days, tension mounted as additional evidence emerged and police interviews revealed conflicting narratives. On June 17, a targeted search operation led to the arrest of Saffia and Austin, who were taken into custody for questioning. During this time, a forensic team returned to the residence and validated the presence of blood, indicating a grim reality: the home had been the scene of considerable violence.

On June 19, authorities were presented with a major breakthrough in the case when Saffia and Austin confessed their involvement in Jenny’s murder. The confession, reportedly made under duress, but with careful police oversight including video and audio recordings, disclosed that they had not only stabbed Jenny but had also strangled her with a rope before attempting to conceal their crime.

The couple directed police to the desolate site where they had disposed of Jenny’s body. In a secluded area along Eccles New Road, they led detectives to a grim location where her remains were found. Wrapped secretly in a garbage bag and concealed beneath a tarpaulin, the body bore multiple stab wounds, with a rope tied tightly around her neck, showcasing the brutal nature of the crime. In a further attempt to stitch together the evidence, police recovered a knife believed to be the murder weapon from the site.

A handwritten note, purportedly from Jenny, was also recovered from the home, shrouded in intrigue due to its suspicious contents. This note, along with blood-stained upholstery collected during the investigation, points to the tumultuous relationship that preceded this tragedy.

As the investigation progresses, all three suspects remain in police custody. The Guyana Police Force is reportedly diligently compiling evidence and preparing a detailed file for legal proceedings.
