CGTN – More than 740 Chinese nationals had been evacuated from Iran to Azerbaijan through the Astara border checkpoint by midday Friday, the Chinese Embassy in Azerbaijan said.

The embassy announced on Tuesday it had officially launched efforts to provide assistance to Chinese nationals entering Azerbaijan from Iran or transiting through Azerbaijan to return home.

With support from an association of overseas Chinese living in Azerbaijan, the evacuees have been transported by bus to hotels in Baku or have immediately booked flights back to China.

The embassy noted that more Chinese citizens are continuing to arrive at the Astara border crossing from Iran, and its on-site task force will continue to provide them with all necessary assistance.
