In a bold and uncompromising statement issued today, Alliance For Change (AFC) Member of Parliament Devin Sears declared his firm opposition to the People’s Progressive Party (PPP) securing another term in government, citing a long list of grievances ranging from corruption to constitutional breaches.
“If you’re expecting me to support the PPP Government for a second term let me be clear — that will never happen,” Sears stated. “I have always stood with the Alliance For Change, a party grounded in hope, justice, and equality. Today, I call on all political parties, civic groups, and concerned citizens to come together and take a united stand to remove this regime from office.”
Sears outlined twelve key reasons why he believes the PPP has failed the Guyanese people and is unfit to continue in office. Chief among these was rampant corruption, particularly in public procurement, where he alleged that politically connected individuals benefit at the expense of fairness and transparency.
He also cited a lack of accountability, claiming senior officials often evade scrutiny while whistleblowers and critics are punished or ignored. According to Sears, the government has shown disrespect for the Constitution, manipulating electoral and parliamentary processes to its advantage.
In his criticism, Sears accused the PPP of politicising state institutions, using them to serve party interests, and perpetuating the marginalisation of opposition regions such as Linden and Region 10. He condemned the prevalence of cronyism, arguing that loyalty is valued over competence, resulting in inefficiency and failed projects.
Turning to justice and national sovereignty, Sears claimed the administration has failed to resolve major cases such as the Henry Boys murders and has shown weakness in defending Guyana’s territorial integrity, particularly in the face of external threats like Venezuela.
He further highlighted the government’s disregard for local entrepreneurs and small businesses, the suppression of dissent, and a decline in Guyana’s international reputation, noting a drop in the country’s Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) and increased scrutiny from global observers.
On the issue of youth development, Sears criticised the PPP for not translating the country’s oil wealth into real opportunities for young people, who he says continue to face unemployment, underemployment, and limited access to education and training.
He concluded with a cautionary note on political endorsements, suggesting they are not the key to electoral success. “Even Taylor Swift, with her millions of followers, endorsed Kamala Harris and it still didn’t secure a victory. Hold a focus Guyana!!!!” Sears urged.
Sears’ statement comes as the country inches closer to a critical election on September 1, 2025. With political tensions rising and parties consolidating their messages. His remarks are expected to stir significant debate across the political spectrum.

PPP DOES NOT DESERVE A NEXT TERM.
If you’re expecting me to support the PPP Government for a second term let me be clear that will never happen. I have always stood with the Alliance For Change, a party grounded in hope, justice, and equality. Today, I call on all political parties, civic groups, and concerned citizens to come together and take a united stand to remove this regime from office.
Here are just a few reasons why I would never endorse the PPP:
1. Rampant Corruption:
The PPP administration has allowed widespread corruption, especially in procurement, where politically connected individuals benefit at the expense of transparency and fairness.
2. Lack of Accountability:
Senior government officials often evade scrutiny for unethical behavior, while whistleblowers and critics are sidelined or victimized.
3. Disrespect for the Constitution:
The PPP has demonstrated repeated disregard for constitutional protocols, including delays and manipulation in the electoral and parliamentary processes.
4. Politicization of State Institutions:
Key institutions, including law enforcement, public broadcasting, and procurement bodies have been politicized, serving party interests over public good.
5. Marginalization of Certain Regions and Communities:
Linden, Region 10, and other predominantly opposition-supporting areas continue to face underinvestment, neglect, and economic discrimination.
6. Cronyism Over Competence:
Government contracts and positions are often awarded based on loyalty to the PPP, not qualifications or merit leading to poor project outcomes and inefficiency.
7. Lack of Justice for Victims:
Cases like the Henry Boys murders, police killings, and other high-profile incidents remain unresolved, pointing to a justice system failing under PPP rule.
8. Weak Stance on National Sovereignty:
The PPP has failed to send a strong message to external actors, like Venezuela, that Guyana’s territorial integrity is non-negotiable. National interests are often treated as bargaining chips.
9. Disregard for Small Businesses and Local Investors:
While large foreign corporations are courted and rewarded, local entrepreneurs and small businesses face unfair hurdles and are often overlooked in public investment decisions.
10. Suppression of Dissenting Voices:
The government frequently intimidates or excludes critical voices, whether from civil society, media, or the political opposition, stifling democratic dialogue.
11. Decline in International Reputation:
Under the PPP, Guyana’s CPI score has dropped, and allegations of corruption and favoritism have raised red flags in the international community.
12. Failure to Create Real Opportunities for Youth:
Despite the wealth from oil and natural resources, young people are still struggling with unemployment, underemployment, and lack of access to quality training and education.
We must also remember that endorsements don’t win elections. Even Taylor Swift, with her millions of followers, endorsed Kamala Harris and it still didn’t secure a victory. Hold a focus Guyana!!!!
