Dear Esteemed Leaders and Officials,

On behalf of the Bartica United Youth Development Group, and in consultation with numerous concerned families and citizens, I am submitting the attached letter titled “Urgent Concerns from Families and Supporters of Inmates – Renewed Call for Government Action and Transparency.”

This generation of Guyanese must not let down our fore-fathers

The letter outlines serious and time-sensitive concerns related to:

  • The exclusion of inmates from the national $100,000 cash grant initiative
  • The denial of inmates’ right to vote
  • Appeals for compassionate release for elderly, ill, and rehabilitated inmates
  • Allegations of abuse involving a female prison officer, Ms. Lewis, and a male officer in separate incidents involving Leon Bishop and the late Samuel Commings
  • The condition of the Lusignan Penitentiary access road
  • Missed opportunities for Independence Day pardons

We are calling for an urgent update and meaningful government response to these concerns. We also respectfully request acknowledgment of receipt of this letter and confirmation that the matter is receiving the appropriate attention from your offices.

Please find the full letter attached. We trust that the Government will consider these issues in the spirit of justice, dignity, and national unity.

United we stand, divided we fall.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Warm regards,
Kellion Leps
General President (Ag.)
