Comfort Foods for Vegans

One of the most common misconceptions about the vegan diet is that it is a whole new meal set unique to itself. This couldn’t be further from the truth! Although there are plenty of new and exciting recipes that vegans have gifted the world, many popular comfort foods, just like this recipe for quinoa chili, have successfully been adapted for vegans and vegetarians.

If you’re in the mood for something else spicy, then Vegan Enchiladas might be just the trick! Made with soft, flavorful black beans and crispy corn tortillas, they’re a surefire hit among vegans and lovers of Tex-Mex cuisine alike!

Vegan Substitutes for Meat

Whether you’re curious about the vegan diet or just looking to expand your repertoire to include vegan-friendly recipes, cooking for vegans need not be daunting. In fact, you don’t have to change the way you prepare your favorite meat recipes all that much. All you need to do is to get a handle on the go-to meat substitutes that have already been tried and tested by vegans.

  • Tofu: Synonymous with vegan cuisine, tofu is often used as a substitute for chicken. Just try this Sesame Tofu Stir-Fry and see!
  • Tempeh: Another popular chicken substitute, Tempeh adds texture to recipes like this Jerk Tempeh Rice among others!
  • Textured Soy: Typically used to substitute mince meat, its chewy texture means it adds extra substance to dishes.
  • Beans: Be they black or white, kidney or lima, beans are as versatile as they are flavorful, as this recipe for Spring Minestrone with Rice demonstrates.
  • Quinoa: The fluffy, binding texture of quinoa makes it the perfect substitute for beef in burgers, as evidenced by this Quinoa Black Bean Burger. (successrice)
