Dear Editor,

We express our condolences to the family and community of 11-year-old Adrianna Younge; and to the family and community of Maline LaCruz, Waveney LaCruz and 16 year old SueAnn LaCruz, 16.

CARICOM’s Shameful Silence as Cuba Stands in the Storm

We support all calls for an independent and thorough investigation into the death of Adrianna Younge. We decry the compromised police handling of the case from the time Adrianna Younge was reported missing to the events after her body was found.

We condemn the violence against citizens including the acid attack on a teacher and three students in Chateau Margot.

We repeat our calls for a transformation of the Guyana Police Force from its current dysfunctional state to one which is committed to protecting and serving the citizens with accountability.  We call on the leaders to stop nurturing the environment in which violence continues, and to lead in healing from the violence.

We recognise, regrettably, that there is fertile ground right now for the rage and frustration and criminality to be manifested.

We call on all citizens in this time, to be in community with each other as we work for justice for Adrianna Younge and all other victims of violence, a justice which includes healing from the violence and committing to the systemic changes so that all of us can thrive in Guyana

Yours truly,
