In a significant political development, the Alliance For Change (AFC) has signaled that it will not be joining forces with the People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR) to contest the upcoming 2025 General and Regional Elections.
Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, AFC Chairman David Patterson confirmed that negotiations with the PNCR had stalled, stating, “While the door remains open, we regret that we were unable to reach an agreement.”
According to Patterson, two weeks ago the AFC submitted a proposal outlining its conditions for coalition—chief among them, a request for the presidential candidacy and a 60-40 distribution of government positions in favor of the PNCR, with the AFC claiming 40 percent.
The PNCR, in response, stood firm on its position. As the dominant party within the APNU coalition, it insisted on maintaining the presidential candidacy and instead proposed a 70-30 division of positions.
Village Voice News understands that the AFC’s decision was formally communicated to PNCR Leader Aubrey Norton earlier this week.
This development could reshape the political landscape ahead of the 2025 elections, raising questions about opposition unity and future electoral strategy. Stay with Village Voice News for interview with Opposition Leader Aubrey Norton.
