The University of Guyana’s Inter-Faculty Track and Field Super Champs 2025 ended with a bang after two days of intense competition, which saw students and staff competing for glory in various sporting disciplines.
The event was planned and executed by the Sports Unit, which falls under the Students’ Welfare Division within the Registry, and demonstrates the institution’s commitment to the development of sports across the university’s campuses. The first day, which featured throwing events, was held at the Turkeyen Campus on April 3rd, while the second day, which featured thrilling track and field events—including sprints, long jump, javelin, and relay races—was held at the Eve Leary Ground in Georgetown on April 4th.

The intense competitions saw the Faculty of Education and Humanities (FEH) copping the overall top spot to win the coveted title of Champion of Champions, with the Faculty of Natural Sciences (FNS) grabbing second place and the Faculty of Social Sciences (FSS) coming in third.

The opening day at Turkeyen Campus set an electrifying pace, with staff leading the charge, earning 47 points. The March Past was a major highlight, with FEH taking the top spot, followed by FSS in second place and FNS in third place.
Assistant Sports Director Osafa Dos Santos reflected on the event’s success, stating, “This year’s championship truly demonstrated the growing enthusiasm for sports at UG. The increased participation and competitive spirit show that our students are embracing both academics and athletics.” Vice-Chancellor Professor Paloma Mohamed Martin echoed this, emphasising the importance of athletics in shaping well-rounded individuals.

The Annual Intra-Faculty Volleyball Tournament, held on March 26, set the tone for the sporting events that followed. Seven teams competed in a round-robin format, with the Faculty of Engineering and Technology A Squad (FET A) emerging as champions, defeating the College of Medical Sciences (CMS) in the finals with scores of 15-11 and 15-10. Daniel Joseph (FET A) was named Male MVP, while Kelisa Jones (FET A) secured Female MVP honours. Other standout performers included Ulex Haynes (CMS) as Best Server, Christopher Nelson (FET) as Best Receiver, Daniel Joseph (FET) as Best Spiker, and Benjamin Mohamed (FET) as Best Setter.

The University of Guyana extends its congratulations to all participating faculties and athletes for their outstanding performances and sportsmanship. With the bar now set higher, excitement is already building for the 2026 Inter-Faculty Track and Field Super Champs, the Inter-Faculty Volleyball Tournament, and other sporting events planned for the remainder of the year.
