Linden, Guyana — A police sergeant has been placed under close arrest following the fatal shooting of 23-year-old Ronaldo Peters on Monday at Wismar Shore, Linden.

According to initial reports, Peters, who was reportedly unarmed, was attempting to flee from police officers who arrived at the scene in an unmarked minibus. Eyewitnesses claim that as Peters tried to escape, he was shot dead by the officer.

The circumstances surrounding the killing have sparked immediate public outrage, with serious concerns raised about the conduct of law enforcement at the scene. Observers report that, hours after the incident, the crime scene remained unsecured, with no forensic team present to preserve or examine critical evidence.

“The police have ignored every principle of an investigation, especially in a case of killing where a policeman is the alleged shooter,” one onlooker lamented. “The scene has been left wide open, and instead of properly gathering eyewitness accounts, a senior officer was seen engaged in a noisy confrontation with the crowd. Is this how justice is pursued in this country?”

The chaotic handling of the aftermath has fueled fears that the incident could be yet another case that disappears without justice. “This is madness and must be properly investigated,” said a concerned resident. “We simply cannot allow people to be killed, investigations delayed, and eventually forgotten. This makes the country unsafe for our children.”

The police have not yet issued an official statement addressing the allegations of misconduct at the scene or the timeline of the forensic investigation.
