Guyana’s opposition and its army of social media pundits must eschew the idea that clever comebacks and fiery press releases will somehow bring about change. Day after day, we see an endless cycle of witty repartee, verbose retorts, and intellectual grandstanding, as if drowning the ruling party in words will break their stranglehold on power. But here’s the harsh reality; the PPP does not care about our well-crafted arguments, our historical references, or our exposés of their blatant corruption. They do not care about shame because they have none.
The opposition is not up against mere political rivals—they are fighting a ruthless, corrupt regime, a system that rewards loyalty over merit, propaganda over truth, and greed over patriotism. They are up against evil in high places, an entrenched network of power that thrives on dividing Guyanese, crushing dissent, and weaponizing the very institutions meant to protect the people. And yet, rather than crafting a bold, transformative vision for Guyana’s future, rather than mobilizing the people, too many in the opposition (all) seem content to pontificate, react, and entertain, as if this is some intellectual sparring match rather than a battle for the nation’s soul.
It is not enough to highlight the corruption of the PPP, we already know they are corrupt. It is not enough to call them out on their lies, we already know they are liars. It is not enough to expose their failures, people are living them every single day. The question is, What are you going to do about it?
If you wish to lead, show us a vision of a Guyana that is prosperous, fair, and inclusive. Tell us exactly how you will fix the broken justice system, the failing healthcare system, the crumbling infrastructure, and the staggering cost of living. Explain how you will create opportunities for all Guyanese, regardless of race, class, or political allegiance.
Talk is cheap, and Guyana cannot afford leaders who only know how to talk. Advocating for change means mobilizing people beyond social media debates. It means stepping into communities, standing side by side with the people who are suffering, and leading real, grassroots movements. It means creating an organized, disciplined opposition that can outmaneuver the ruling party, not just out-talk them. It means making the case every single day for why Guyanese should trust you with their future.
Those who wish to lead must demonstrate an unwavering love for Guyana and all her people, not just their political base. The PPP thrives on racial and political division, pitting Guyanese against each other while they loot the nation’s wealth. The opposition must do the opposite, they must unite Guyanese with a nationalistic agenda, one that puts country over party, progress over pettiness, and unity over division.
Guyanese are tired of leaders who speak well but do nothing. They are tired of opposition figures who are more interested in power rather than in building a real national movement. If you wish to lead, show us the way forward. If you wish to defeat the PPP, give Guyanese something worth fighting for.
Otherwise, you are just entertainers, and Guyana does not need more of those.
