The academic and professional excellence of the University of Guyana’s (UG) faculty continues to be recognised on the global stage, with some of the institution’s academic staff being appointed to serve in key institutional roles. One such distinguished appointment is that of Dr Dianna DaSilva-Glasgow, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences (FSS), who has been named Associate Editor of The Round Table: The Commonwealth Journal of International Affairs for a renewable two-year term which commenced on 1st January 2025.

The Round Table Journal, published six times a year, is a leading platform for informed analysis and discussions on international relations and Commonwealth affairs. It attracts contributions from prominent scholars, policymakers, and professionals across the world, covering governance, economic development, diplomacy, and trade.

In her new role as Associate Editor, Dr Da Silva-Glasgow will play a crucial role in supporting the Journal’s Editor by identifying potential academic and policy practitioner contributors, reviewing submissions, ensuring adherence to publishing ethics, liaising with guest editors, and publicising calls for papers. Her responsibilities will also include helping to maintain the journal’s high standards and expanding its reach by encouraging the submission of high-quality articles.

Other members of the Board include: Professor Remi Aiyede (Nigeria); James Akampumuza (Uganda); Sola Akinrinade (Nigeria); Syed Badrul Ahsan (Bangladesh); Godfrey Baldacchino (Malta); Cynthia Barrow-Giles (Barbados); Anthony Bryan (Trinidad and Tobago/USA); James Chin (Malaysia/Australia); Indrajit Coomaraswamy (Sri Lanka); Hugh Craft (Australia); Sunanda Datta-Ray (India); Michael Frendo (Malta); Dayanath Jayasuriya (Sri Lanka); Wm Roger Louis (USA); Munir Majid (Malaysia); Don Markwell (Australia); Derek McDougall (Australia); Dr Henrietta McNeill (Australia); Henning Melber (Namibia/Sweden); Eva Namusoke (Uganda); Matthew Neuhaus (Australia); Sue Onslow (UK); Sandra Pepera (Ghana/USA); Sir Ronald Sanders (Antigua and Barbuda/USA); Tim Shaw (Canada/USA); Farooq Sobhan (Bangladesh); Robert Summerby-Murray (New Zealand/Canada); Joanne Wallis (Australia); Wang Gungwu (Singapore) and Brenda Yeoh (Singapore) and Yeoh Seng Guan (Malaysia/Australia).

Dr DaSilva-Glasgow is a renowned economist, consultant, and trade policy specialist with extensive research on Caribbean economic and social development, as well as international trade policy. A proud alumna of the University of Guyana, she earned her Bachelor of Social Science degree in Economics before pursuing a Master of Science degree in International Trade Policy and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Economic Development Policy at the University of the West Indies. Her scholarly contributions include numerous book chapters and journal articles addressing critical economic issues affecting the Caribbean region.

As a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Economics and the Dean of the FSS, Dr DaSilva-Glasgow has been instrumental in shaping academic discourse, fostering research excellence, and mentoring students. Her appointment as Associate Editor of The Round Table reflects not only her own scholarly expertise but also the broader impact of UG’s faculty in global academia and policy discussions.

The University of Guyana takes immense pride in the achievements of its academic staff, who continue to secure international recognition for their contributions to research, policy development, and education. This latest appointment highlights UG’s growing influence on international scholarship and underscores the institution’s commitment to advancing intellectual discourse on key global and regional issues.

Dr DaSilva-Glasgow’s new role provides an opportunity to elevate Caribbean scholarship and policymaking within international discussions, ensuring that the region’s perspectives on trade, development, and economic policy are well represented. The University looks forward to the continued impact of her work in The Round Table and beyond.
