Acivil rights attorney with St Kitts and Nevis roots, Kiah Duggins, has been identified as one of the victims of the tragic January 29 collision between an American Airlines flight and a Black Hawk helicopter in Washington, DC.

Duggins, the daughter of Dr Maurice Duggins, originally from Sandy Point, St Kitts, was a well-regarded attorney known for her impactful work with the Civil Rights Corps. She was recognized for her efforts in challenging unconstitutional policing money bail practices in several states, including Tennessee, Texas, and Washington, DC.

A former Miss Kansas contestant, Duggins was remembered by her family as a “beautiful and accomplished firstborn.” They have asked for privacy as they grieve her loss.

The crash, which occurred on Wednesday night, involved American Airlines Flight 5342, which was nearing Reagan Washington National Airport.

On board were 64 people—60 passengers and four crew members—none of whom survived. At least 40 bodies have been recovered, according to DC Fire Chief John Donnelly. Loop News
