Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Prime Minister of Grenada Dickon Mitchell in Beijing on Monday, emphasizing China’s willingness to work with Grenada to deepen bilateral cooperation.

During the meeting, Grenada’s prime minister extended sincere condolences to the Chinese government and people over the recent earthquake in Dingri County in southwest China’s Xizang Autonomous Region.

Xi expressed his appreciation, noting that given the high-altitude area where the earthquake occurred, China swiftly completed rescue and temporary resettlement efforts, which will promptly be followed by reconstruction work.

“The Chinese government is confident and capable of achieving victory in earthquake relief,” Xi said.

Xi noted that in recent years, China-Grenada relations have developed steadily, marked by mutual respect and equality, political mutual trust, fruitful results in practical cooperation across various spheres, and deepening friendship between the two peoples.

He affirmed China’s willingness to work with Grenada to align development strategies and enhance bilateral cooperation for the benefit of the two peoples.

Maintaining and developing China-Grenada relations is in the fundamental interests of the two countries and peoples, the Chinese president pointed out.

Xi called on the two sides to summarize the two decades of successful development of ties since the resumption of diplomatic relations and charting a new blueprint for the long-term and high-level development of those ties.

China supports Grenada independently exploring its own development path in line with its national conditions, and is willing to strengthen exchanges in governance and political experience, as well as closely engage in friendly exchanges in various fields, Xi stressed.

China’s development will bring new development opportunities to all countries, including Grenada, Xi said, adding that China is willing to provide assistance to Grenada’s economic and social development within the framework of South-South cooperation, and explore partnerships in new energy, green low carbon development, and digital economy.

China supports Grenada’s efforts to enhance its capacity to climate change response, and is ready to advocate for the international community to address small island nations’ climate change concerns.

He also urged joint efforts to deepen people-to-people exchanges.

Noting that China advocates for an equal and orderly multi-polar world and inclusive economic globalization that benefits all, Xi said China is willing to work with the Grenadian side to implement the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative and the Global Civilization Initiative, and to promote the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.

Xi reiterated that China has always attached great importance to its relations with the Caribbean countries, is willing to continue providing assistance within its capacity for the economic and social development of those countries and deepen the comprehensive partnership between the two sides.

Mitchell thanked China for its assistance after Hurricane Beryl.

He reaffirmed Grenada’s commitment to the one-China policy.

The Grenadian Prime Minister praised the people-centered governing philosophy of the Communist Party of China that has led the country to great achievements, setting a precedent for developing nations.

He called China a leader in the Global South, saying that China sticks to the principle that all countries, big or small, are equal.

China’s actions match its words in international affairs, Mitchell added.

He also expressed Grenada’s readiness to stand with China to safeguard global peace and stability.
