Annastacia Brathwaite, a dedicated public health inspector and aspiring safety officer, has carved a path marked by determination and passion. Growing up in Skeldon, Region 6 (East Corentyne-Berbice), Brathwaite attended Corriverton Primary School and Skeldon Line Path Secondary, where she completed her CXC examinations.

Her journey began as an educator, teaching young minds at Craig and Campbell’s Trust Nursery for three years. However, she soon sought new opportunities, moving to Georgetown to live with family while exploring her aspirations.

In September 2017, Brathwaite took a significant step by enrolling in Environmental Health training at the Health Sciences Division of the Ministry of Health. This decision led to her current role as a Public Health Inspector with the Regional Democratic Council Region 4.

Brathwaite’s passion for safety and well-being drove her to further her education. She pursued an Occupational Health and Safety certificate at the University of Guyana’s Institute of Distance and Continuing Education (IDCE), graduating with distinction in 2024.

Her dedication did not stop there—she is now pursuing a diploma at the University of Guyana to continue advancing her knowledge and skills in the field.

Brathwaite is family-oriented and is the mother of a son.

“I am passionate about helping others, problem-solving, and ensuring fairness. Occupational safety and health provide me with an opportunity to make a tangible difference in the lives of workers and contribute to a safer, healthier Guyana,” Brathwaite shared. “This field combines practicality, creativity, and responsibility in a way that is both rewarding and impactful.”

Reflecting on her journey, she acknowledges the challenges but remains steadfast in her belief in perseverance. “Life is riddled with challenges; however, you always have to remember your why, and it’ll keep you going. Take breaks when necessary,” she advised.
