Georgetown, Guyana – Tragedy struck the Indigenous community as Toshao Ridley Joseph of Tasserene Village, Middle Mazaruni, was found murdered in his room at the Signature Inn in Queenstown, Georgetown. The shocking discovery was made while Joseph, along with several other Toshaos, was in the city attending a meeting. The circumstances surrounding his death remain unclear, and law enforcement has launched a full investigation into the incident.

Former Minister Annette Ferguson expressed deep sorrow at the news, stating, “It is sad to hear the passing of a young Toshao, Ridley Joseph, of Tassarene Village, Middle Mazaruni, Region 7, who was found murdered in a city hotel. My sincere condolences to his family, friends, villagers, and the wider Region 7 community. May his soul find eternal rest.” Attorney-at-law Nigel Hughes also conveyed condolences, remarking, “We are deeply shocked to learn of the brutal murder of Toshao Ridley Joseph of Tasserene Village in the Mid Mazaruni. We offer our most profound sympathies to his family, the people of his community, and the good people of the Mazaruni. Our thoughts and prayers are with them all at this most difficult time.” As the nation mourns the loss of this respected leader, calls for swift justice and support for his grieving family and community continue to grow.
