The long-awaited chess competition, organized by the Guyana  Chess Federation, was graciously hosted by His Excellency President Dr. Irfaan Ali  on Sunday, December 1st, 2024, under the Benab at State House, Main Street,  Georgetown.

Eighty-two chess players participated in the seven-round Swiss event under a time  control of fifteen minutes per player, with a five-second increment after each  move. The Open section saw substantial  competition from the fifty-two contenders, the youngest player at seven years of  age, while in the Female section, twenty-eight women and girls competed for a  chance to be among the prize winners.
