In the heart of Kingelly Village, West Coast Berbice, 21-year-old Monifa D’Aguiar stands as a beacon of strength and determination. Born and raised in this vibrant community, Monifa is the second of four siblings and has always been driven by a deep passion for helping others. With aspirations to make a significant impact in the health sector, she embodies the spirit of an independent woman dedicated to serving those in need.
Monifa’s educational journey began at Litchfield Nursery and Primary School, followed by Bush Lot Secondary School, where she discovered her voice and commitment to advocacy. It was during her time at Bush Lot that she had the remarkable opportunity to participate in the 5th Annual Youth Parliament—a pivotal experience that solidified her desire to be a voice for the voiceless.
“I see myself as a strong, spiritual, and hardworking woman. With God’s guidance, I believe I can achieve anything,” Monifa said.
As Monifa looks to the future, her plans remain flexible but focused on the health sector. She is particularly excited about the Free University education initiative by the Government of Guyana, which she sees as a chance to expand her knowledge and skills. “My heart yearns to help people who cannot help themselves,” she shares passionately.
D’Aguiar pursued the Ministry of Health pharmacy assistant training program and works with the Region 5 health department.
Further, she added, “I have placed all my plans in God’s hands, relying on Him for direction and strength.”
Monifa’s path has not been without challenges. Initially uncertain about her career direction, she faced significant hurdles during her studies—especially with mathematics. “I wasn’t naturally inclined towards math,” she admits. “But I realised that if I wanted to achieve my goals, I had to make it my friend.” Through determination and hard work, she overcame her fears and succeeded in her studies, often juggling late-night travel to the Ministry of Health Health Science Education Department for quizzes and tests.
Her journey serves as an inspiration for fellow students navigating their own challenges. “Never give up on what you believe in, even when others don’t encourage you,” Monifa advises. She emphasizes the importance of prayer and seeking support: “Do not be afraid to reach out and pursue your dreams.”
Monifa Molia D’Aguiar isn’t just a young woman with big dreams; she is a testament to resilience and commitment. As she prepares for her future in health care, her story encourages others to embrace their journeys with courage and faith.
