“Initially, my journey in makeup artistry began as a hobby; I loved experimenting with different looks and techniques. Over time, I refined my skills through practice and research, which opened doors for freelance opportunities.

Immersing myself in the beauty industry allowed me to learn about trends, products, and client preferences. Each project deepened my passion and honed my artistry. Today, I strive to empower others through my work, using makeup as a means of self-expression and confidence-building,” Ramdin said.

Kavita’s journey has solidified her entrepreneurial aspirations while connecting her with a vibrant community of artists and clients who inspire her daily.

Further, she adds, “My entrepreneurial journey started with a simple idea fueled by my passion for creativity and a desire to make a meaningful impact. Freelancing in makeup artistry provided me with insights into running a business, from marketing myself to managing client relationships. As I built my portfolio and gained confidence, I recognized the potential to expand my services. Taking the plunge into entrepreneurship, I launched my own brand focused on personalized makeup experiences tailored to individual needs and styles.”

This journey has been both challenging and rewarding. Kavita dedicates time to learning about business management, branding, and social media marketing, which has assisted her in reaching a broader audience. Collaborating with other artists and participating in local events offered invaluable exposure and networking opportunities for her.

“Through perseverance and continuous learning, I’ve grown my brand and cultivated a loyal client base while staying true to my artistic vision,” she added.

Facing several challenges that test her skills and resilience

As a makeup artist, Kavita faces several challenges that test her skills and resilience. One primary hurdle is managing client expectations since each individual has their unique vision of beauty. To overcome this, she prioritizes clear communication from the outset by conducting thorough consultations to understand her client’s desires and concerns. Additionally, the beauty industry is highly competitive; staying relevant to trends can be daunting. However, Ramdin tackles this challenge by continually educating herself through workshops, and online courses, as well as following industry leaders to refine her techniques.

Another significant challenge for Ramdin was dealing with the unpredictability of freelance work, where scheduling and income can fluctuate. To address this, she has established a strong online presence and actively networked to build a steady stream of clients and referrals. The physical demands of the job can also be taxing; as such, she prioritizes self-care by incorporating regular exercise and downtime into her routine. Each challenge has strengthened her adaptability, ultimately shaping her into a more skilled artist.“

“Embrace continuous learning and resilience”

For aspiring entrepreneurs and youth looking to carve their paths, her key advice is “Embrace continuous learning and resilience. Understand that your journey will have ups and downs; view challenges as opportunities for growth rather than setbacks. Start by identifying your passions and strengths—these will be your greatest assets in building a business that resonates with you.”

She continued by saying, “Don’t hesitate to seek mentorship; surrounding yourself with experienced individuals can provide invaluable insights. Networking is crucial—engage with your community, attend industry events, and leverage social media to connect with like-minded individuals. Be open to feedback and willing to pivot when necessary; flexibility can lead to unforeseen opportunities. Lastly, prioritize self-care to maintain the balance between work and personal life. The entrepreneurial journey is demanding, but nurturing your well-being will sustain your passion and creativity.”
