Berbice, Guyana – Police are currently investigating an alleged robbery at a jewelry and pawnshop in New Amsterdam, Berbice, that resulted in one alleged suspect being fatally shot by the establishment’s owner. The incident occurred around 10:20 a.m. on Monday, October 7, 2024, at the intersection of Trinity Street and Main Road.

According to police reports, it is alleged that two males armed with handguns, and dressed in hoodies, entered the pawnshop and began their robbery, during which they shot a customer in the right leg. As the commotion unfolded, the proprietor, who is a licensed firearm holder, responded by firing shots at the suspects, prompting them to flee the scene.
