Athens, Greece – Team Guyana wrapped up an inspiring run at the First Global Robotics Challenge in Athens, earning a creditable 6 wins and 4 losses in the world’s most prestigious robotics competition. Competing against some of the most talented young minds from over 180 countries, Team Guyana may have been relatively inexperienced, but their drive and determination carried them through every challenge they faced.

With a team of enthusiastic newcomers who joined the challenge 2 months late due to resource issues and who were guided by the volunteered efforts of former players who offered technical advice when they could, Team Guyana’s performance reflected the power of resilience, teamwork, and a hunger to learn. Despite the challenges, these young innovators persevered, showing the world what the next generation of Guyanese talent is capable of achieving.

According to Team mentor Ariel Taylor, “One of the most rewarding aspects of the competition was the opportunity to engage with peers from across the globe. Team Guyana met and interacted with young innovators from diverse cultures, sharing ideas and learning about new technologies. These exchanges fostered a global mindset and expanded their vision of what’s possible through collaboration and innovation. They didn’t just compete—they built friendships, learned from others, and were exposed to cutting-edge technology that will inspire their future work.”

Robotics competitions like First Global are not just about building and programming robots—they provide invaluable life skills. Through robotics, students learn critical thinking, problem-solving, and teamwork, all while engaging with STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math).  They team will return to Guyana and will continue outreach events and workshops to share their experience and to inspire the next generation of Guyana’s STEM professionals.
