By Mark DaCosta-ONE Communications, formerly known as GTT, has officially launched its new brand in Georgetown, marking a pivotal moment for the telecommunications sector in Guyana. This rebranding – the company states – signifies not only a name change but a transformation of the company’s operations and its commitment to enhancing customer experiences. The new brand promises to deliver improved services and bring a range of technological advancements to the forefront of our nation.

The journey to ONE Communications began in 2021 when Damian Blackburn, a telecommunications veteran, assumed the role of CEO. Under his leadership, the company embarked on a mission to put the customer at the centre of its operations, driving a series of innovations that would ultimately lead to this major rebranding effort. By focusing on customer-centricity, the company has worked to ensure that its services are not just improved but designed to meet the specific needs of individuals, businesses, and communities in every corner of Guyana.

Chief Commercial Officer, Kerchelle Jn Charles, emphasised the importance of this shift, stating, “This is more than just a rebrand. It represents our deep commitment to putting customers first in all that we do.”

Since 2021, the company has made several strides in modernising its services, each contributing to the eventual transition to ONE Communications. One of the most impactful achievements has been the expansion of the fibre network, which now covers two out of every three homes in the country. Over 150,000 households have access to high-speed fibre internet, making it one of the the fastest and most reliable option for Guyanese residents. This infrastructure expansion has played a key role in how families, businesses, and communities connect and interact in the modern digital landscape.

In addition to the fibre network, ONE Communications has collaborated with WANSAT to bring satellite internet to the nation’s most remote areas. This partnership ensures that even the most underserved regions can access high-speed internet, an essential service in today’s world. By bridging the digital divide, the company aims to bring the benefits of connectivity to every part of Guyana, no matter how rural or isolated.

Upgrades to the mobile network have also been a top priority. Enhanced mobile towers have improved both coverage and speeds, providing a more reliable and seamless mobile experience for customers across the country. These upgrades reflect the company’s vision of a connected Guyana, where no one is left behind.

The company’s innovations have extended beyond internet and mobile services. In partnership with Mobile Money Guyana, ONE Communications has played a critical role in revolutionising how people manage their finances. The Mobile Money Guyana app has become an indispensable tool, enabling users to perform financial transactions with ease and security. This modern convenience has streamlined daily life for countless Guyanese, who can now handle their finances with a few taps on their smartphones.

The rebranding to ONE Communications is about more than just a name change. It symbolises the company’s evolution from a provider of various services to a unified entity that is committed to offering seamless, top-tier customer experiences. The company states that the name “ONE” is significant, representing the company’s goal of being united with its customers, its community, and its mission to lead the telecommunications industry not only in Guyana but across the region.

Chief Operating Officer, Eshwar Thakurdin, described the meaning behind the new name: “The name ONE Communications embodies our transformation. It signifies the unity of our diverse services and our goal of being one with our customers, community, and mission.”

As ONE Communications moves forward, it is setting its sights on new goals that go beyond simply being the leading telecommunications provider in Guyana. The company aims to redefine industry standards in service delivery and innovation, building deeper connections with its customers and offering more value with every interaction. By prioritising the needs of the people, the company hopes to become the most exciting and well-regarded telecommunications brand, not just in Guyana but across the region.

Kerchelle Jn Charles, in looking to the future, noted, “Our journey has prepared us for this moment, and as ONE Communications, we are stronger, ready to tackle the challenges and opportunities ahead with renewed passion.”

The company states that the transition to ONE Communications is both a celebration of the company’s achievements and a commitment to its future. As the brand moves forward with a focus on innovation, customer service, and community connection, it also honours its past as GTT, recognising the role the company has played in shaping Guyana’s telecommunications landscape over the years.
