David DaSilva is one of many young Guyanese being given the opportunity to pursue their learning passion for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) as an integrated discipline.

STEMGuyana was launched in August 2016 by Karen Abrams to “help prepare Guyana’s children for the 21st Century and oil and gas economy.”

It is not only Abrams’ goal that Guyana’s children, through exposure to STEM, should be able to compete for any job in the new economy but also to lead or own any business of their choosing. And in the process of arriving at that age of maturation, Guyana’s children are not only honing their knowledge and skills here but have been successfully competing on the international stage.

STEMGuyana is preparing the next national robotics team to compete in Athens, Greece, the country known for its rich architectural work; identified as the cradle of western civilization; gave the world democracy, mathematical principles, Olympic games, the names of the 12 zodiac signs, philosophy, literature, theater, sculpture and many more. It is in this awe-inspiring capital, David, Gabriella Roberts, Lucas Simpson, Tejasvarun Kandavel and Lateisha McArthur will showcase Guyana’s STEM talent, once again.

STEMGuyana in its newsletter said David is a shining example of dedication. He continues to inspire his peers with his drive and enthusiasm. As a committed STEM club member, David has distinguished himself and was invited to try out for the robotics team which will be travelling to Greece.

David’s contribution and technical expertise will be instrumental in the success of STEM. He has demonstrated remarkable skills in robotics, programming, and problem-solving. STEMGuyana said his journey with the institution began with a curiosity for technology which has since evolved into a deep commitment to innovation and excellence.

His curiosity underscores a principle in education, that every child, irrespective of social, economic and/or political status, can thrive if given the opportunity and resources to explore his/her interest in an enabling and caring environment.

David DaSilva is the son of a mother who hails from Bartica, Region 7, and a father who hails from Mainstay Lake, Region 2. This country boy, as it were, from developing Guyana is heading to the biggest city of a powerful civilization and empire, to compete!
