Govt wants GuySuCo to fail for friends to acquire the land

Dear Editor,

Mr. Tony Vieira penned that “throwing money behind GuySuCo will not revive that dead corporation” (August 15). Has it occurred to Vieira and others who are so genuinely concerned about the company and its wasteful expenditures that the government’s intent is not to rescue GuySuCo but to quicken its death? GuySuCo has become a cash cow for government functionaries, friends and families. Contracts are awarded to them on various services to the company, milking the company in billions. The workers remain at the bottom, working the hardest but have been paid the lowest.

Guyana Leads The Caribbean With Fake Ph.Ds

Why has the government saddled the company with incompetent leadership since it assumed power? Individuals who know nothing about sugar cultivation or harvesting or running corporations became CEOs; they ignored the board and those who previously were in management when the company was profitable. Those who know about and are well experienced in sugar production have been excluded or belittled or marginalised. There is theft of resources and mismanagement. Personnel who were failures have been retained or rewarded with promotion. Not only GuySuCo, but the entire agricultural sector is collapsing.

GuySuCo has prized land and several in the government and their friends want to get their hand on it.  The faster the company collapses, the quicker the looters will acquire the land.

Yours truly,
Roopchand Sharma
