People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR) candidate for Leader, Roysdale Forde, S.C, M.P, in a statement said today’s nomination process appears to be smooth in terms of the flow of work being done and marks a milestone in the process of preparing for congress and elections to be held at month’s end.

Forde noted every potential candidate only requires one single nomination and it is not unusual for there to be multiple nominations which can be either based on general widespread support or a bit of political tactic to present a particular image. The converse situation may also apply, he stated.

The senior counsel told Village Voice News in a free, fair and transparent process the victory will come from the ground, and he has put in enough work to be confident of his chances. He  promised that as a candidate he will bring to the PNCR election similar seriousness, rigour and legal oversight as witnessed from him at the national level. According to the candidate, he is committed to a credible, free, fair and transparent process, and is prepared to use the means at his disposal to ensure this.

Preliminary unverified information suggests incumbent Aubrey Norton has received more nominations than his  rivals. Following the process, the next stage is for verification of the financial standing of members, groups and nominees before final determination is made.

Statement by Roysdale Forde S.C, M.P – PNCR Candidate for Leader

Nomination Day (June 10, 2024) marks a very significant milestone in the process preparing for Congress and elections to be held 28th-30th June 2024.  It’s a presentation of all the nominees for various positions from the various groups /districts to national level following established procedures.

Today’s process appeared to be smooth in terms of the flow of work being done. The energy on display was very high. This came from all quarters among our Party’s youth as well as our matured faces.

My presence at this forum was very low keyed in keeping with the customary nature of nomination. The other candidates took the opportunity to give a show and build some excitement, which is also fine for the Party.

We are reminded that every potential candidate only requires one single nomination. It is not unusual for there to be multiple nominations which can be either based on general widespread support or a bit of political tactic to present a particular image. The converse situation may also apply.

The next stage is to have the nominees, groups and members validated and that I expect will require lots of strategy and oversight of the process, more so given the issue of a missing CPU and other concerns which I have written to the General Secretary about. To date no response or even an acknowledgement has been received but that will soon be addressed with the strictness that it requires.

There is no room to allow for the business of the Party not to be conducted in full transparency, with integrity and accountability.  At this stage, I am looking to ensure a process that will guarantee the will of the people is protected and that the democratic process remains enshrined in our Party.

As a candidate I bring to the PNCR election similar seriousness, rigour and legal oversight as witnessed from me at the national level. I am committed to a credible, free, fair and transparent process, and I am prepared to use the means at my disposal to ensure this.

Together we must set standards, obey and protect the laws of our Party to move the PNCR and country forward and advance our cause for a better Party, a better Guyana. Our Party must rise for Guyana to rise in the right direction.
