In a shocking announcement that has sparked outrage and accusations of political manipulation, the Guyana Police Force declared that they will not be offering security support for concerts and other activities during a specific period, coinciding precisely with the highly anticipated Linden Town Week events.

The statement, issued by the authorities, cited a peculiar term, stating, “Kindly be informed that the Force will not be inlying for any concerts or any other activities during this period (2024-05-03 to 2024-05-07).” This cryptic phrasing left many citizens scratching their heads, struggling to decipher its intended meaning.

However, for residents of Linden living in the Diaspora, the motive behind this decision seemed all too clear. Andrew Nichols, a concerned resident of Linden, minced no words, asserting that this move was a calculated attempt to sabotage the Linden Town Week festivities. “The announcement is meant to negatively impact attendance of Linden Town Week’s events which have been enormously successful,” Nichols stated, echoing the sentiments of many in the community.

Even more damning are the allegations of political collusion. Clinton James, another observer of the situation, did not mince words, labeling the police statement as a “blatant economic boycott against the people of Linden.” He went on to suggest that such a drastic measure could only be enacted with the tacit approval of the ruling government, the PPP. James further speculated that this boycott was designed to reinforce a disturbing narrative, one that suggests that non-PPP-affiliated Black businesses and communities must not be allowed to thrive.

The ramifications of this decision extend far beyond mere inconvenience. For the people of Linden, the Linden Town Week celebrations represent a cultural tradition and a vital economic lifeline. The influx of visitors and revenue generated by these events is essential for the prosperity of the region.

Furthermore, the timing of this announcement raises serious questions about the priorities of the Guyana Police Force and the government they serve. One local observer who wished to remain anonymous, fearing reprisal, stated that, “at a time when communities across the nation are grappling with issues of crime and public safety, it is unconscionable that resources would be diverted away from protecting innocent citizens to pursue what appears to be a political vendetta.”

The Guyana Police Force must provide clarity on their decision and reassurance to the people of Linden that their safety and well-being will not be sacrificed for the sake of political expediency. Anything less would be a betrayal of the trust and duty entrusted to law enforcement agencies to serve and protect all citizens, regardless of their political affiliations.
