UG Hosts Hosts Internationally-acclaimed Grammy and Tony Nominated Trumpeter, Jazz Musician Reggie Pittman

The University of Guyana’s Artist in Residence Programme recently held an Exclusive Music Masterclass, with Internationally acclaimed Grammy and Tony nominated trumpeter and jazz musician, Mr Reggie Pittman.


The event which was held at the university’s Education Lecture Theatre (ELT), Turkeyen Campus, saw several persons in the creative industry, including UG students, members of the Theatre Guild, the Guyana Police Force (GPF) Steel Orchestra, representatives of the National Drama Company EdYou FM and Woodside Choir among others benefitting from the expertise of the international musician.

With over thirty years of experience in the music industry, Mr Pittman shared his musical journey and techniques for performing, networking and collaborating on the international stage. In encouraging the artists to hone their craft, he said: “If you want to become great, you must practice every day and it will become part of you.” He explained that sometimes an artiste must practice thirty hours to perfect a technique for a piece that will only last for three minutes.
