CLOUD SEEDING PROGRAM

At the Doha Expo 2023, during December 2023, Dr. Shamir Ally, witnessed a very impressive 360 Degree presentation of this very impressive CLOUD SEEDING PROGRAM. Saudi Arabia launches cloud seeding operation over three cities to increase rainfall

The Saudi cloud seeding program includes five aircraft. Four will be for cloud seeding and the specially equipped fifth plane will be for weather and climate research and studies. It is worth noting that the Kingdom is the second country in the world to own this type of research aircraft and that the industrial cloud seeding program aims to enhance water resources, develop vegetation, and enable the Kingdom to benefit from renewable water sources.

A year ago, the ministry launched the program’s first phase to increase precipitation levels, create new water sources, increase green space, and intensify vegetation to mitigate desertification and drought through qualified local staff with the highest skill levels. Now, the program has completed its third phase and is preparing to launch the fourth. The preliminary studies of rainfall resulting from the first three phases’ initial results indicate precipitation of 3.5 billion cubic meters of water in target areas.

There is always a question about the rationale behind cloud seeding. From a cost standpoint per cubic meter, producing water through cloud seeding is cheaper than desalination. Furthermore, rainfalls triggered by cloud seeding are vital for the ambitious Saudi Green Initiative to plant millions of trees nationwide.

How is cloud seeding done?

Cloud-seeding is a technique that involves introducing chemicals to clouds, like small particles of silver iodide, to induce more rain from a cloud. This causes water droplets to congregate around them, and the water particles clash with one another, growing larger and increasing the likelihood of rainfall.

How long does cloud seeding take?

The nozzles charge the particles as they are sprayed, the charged droplets are carried up into the clouds and distributed by updrafts that feed the clouds, and the entire process takes only 15-20 minutes from seeding to precipitation.

How artificial rain is created?

Cloud seeding creates artificial rain by injecting substances such as silver iodide, potassium iodide, dry ice (solid carbon dioxide), liquid propane, or salt into clouds to induce precipitation.

Can cloud seeding cause snow?

Called SNOWIE, the study used sophisticated radar and meteorological methods to demonstrate unambiguously that cloud seeding can increase snowfall.

Did DUBAI create artificial rain?

In 2010, cloud seeding began as a project by weather authorities to create artificial rain. The project, which began in July 2010 and cost $11 million USD, succeeded in creating rainstorms in the Dubai and Abu Dhabi deserts.

When did the USA start cloud seeding?

In 1946, Schaefer conducted the first true cloud seeding experiment by aircraft. He dropped 6 pounds of crushed dry ice into a cloud in the Adirondack Mountains of New York.

Which USA states use cloud seeding?

Cloud-seeding programs occur worldwide. In the Western U.S., state and agency-supported efforts occur across California, Nevada, Colorado, New Mexico, Wyoming, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, North Dakota, Utah, and Idaho.

Is Texas cloud seeding?

Most cloud seeding programs in Texas operate an average of 25 days to 45 days a year, depending on cloud conditions. An operational day could result in multiple flights with 1.5 hours to 8 hours of total flight time

Why isn’t cloud seeding used for wildfires?

There must be enough water in the clouds to make rain, but not enough to trigger the rain process. Cloud seeding just pushes it over the edge when it is remarkably close to being ready to rain. That condition does not exist in the areas of major wildfires.

Which country uses cloud seeding the most?

CHINA. The largest cloud seeding system is in the People’s Republic of China. They believe that it increases the amount of rain over several increasingly arid regions, including its capital city, Beijing, by firing silver iodide rockets into the sky where rain is desired.

FUTURE of Cloud Seeding.

Market intelligence company providing research… The global cloud seeding market size is expected to reach USD 0.25 billion by 2030 from USD 0.13 billion in 2021, registering a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 5.5% during the forecast period.
