By former Mayor Pt. Ubraj Narine- In a shocking turn of events, the Minister of Education, Hon. Priya Manickchand, has issued a circular through the Chief Education Officer (CEO) that has raised serious concerns within the education sector.

It is evident that the circular is referring to a specific individual, Mr. Azruddin Mohamed, who has always been present to support schools students and teachers where the minister has failed to do so.

It is astounding to witness the Ministry of Education targeting someone who has consistently displayed a genuine commitment to the betterment of education in Guyana.

Mr. Azruddin Mohamed has gone above and beyond his call of duty to assist schools, students and teachers in any way possible, showcasing his dedication to their success and progress.

It is important to note that if Mr. Azruddin Mohamed was promoting a political party such as the People’s Progressive Party (PPP), there should not be any issue with it.

In a democratic society, individuals have the right to express their political affiliations freely without facing unjust repercussions. Yet, it is disheartening and deeply troubling to witness a government minister stooping so low as to attack someone who is actively contributing to the development of education in our nation.

Mr. Azruddin Mohamed, I urged you to continue your noble work for the betterment of all Guyanese. Your efforts are not limited by political boundaries but are aimed at uplifting our society as a whole. Your dedication to One People, One Nation, One Destiny reflects the values that should be cherished in Guyana and NOT ONE GUYANA.

We call upon Minister Manickchand to focus her energies on fulfilling her responsibilities towards education rather than attempting to undermine individuals who are actively bridging the gaps she has left behind.

It is high time for the minister to reassess her priorities and ensure that she meets the needs and expectations of the education sector.

Education is a fundamental right and plays a crucial role in shaping the future of our nation. It is disconcerting to witness a government minister failing to adequately provide for schools, students, and teachers while someone like Mr. Azruddin Mohamed works tirelessly to fill in the gaps.

Azruddin Mohamed

Minister Manickchand, it is imperative that you recognise and appreciate the efforts of those who are making a positive difference in our education system, instead of attempting to suppress them.

The needs and well-being of our students, teachers and schools must be prioritized above all else. Let us rise above political divisions and work collectively towards a brighter future for education in Guyana.

Mr. Azruddin Mohamed, continue your commendable work, knowing that you have the support and gratitude of the people. We must not allow this unfortunate incident to diminish our faith in the power of education and the dedication of those who selflessly contribute to its advancement.

Together, let us strive for a united Guyana, where everyone is given equal opportunities and access to quality education.

Former Staff Sgt.(GDF), Mayor City of Georgetown
