The Institute for Action Against Discrimination (IFAAD), headed by former Mayor Pt. Ubraj Narine, Vice Chairman and other executive members Roysdale Forde S.C and Lelon Saul, accompanied by Amanza Walton-Desir did a walkabout at Stabroek Market on Saturday.

The aim of the walkabout was to engage and interact with vendors while promoting the right to self-determination, impressing upon the vendors the importance of cooperation and need for inclusive development.

During the walkabout, the team actively engaged with numerous vendors, listened to their concerns, and reassured them of continued efforts to bolster their well-being and livelihoods.

Many vendors complained of hardship at rising cost for wholesale produce and having to sell at high cost to the ordinary man and woman who are feeling the squeeze.

The officials reiterated their firm commitment to understanding the issues faced by vendors and finding practical solutions through open dialogue and collaborative initiatives.

Narine, who was former mayor of Georgetown Municipality, and well-known for his impactful tenure as the City’s leader, expressed enthusiasm at the response of the vendors, and used the opportunity to encourage them not to lose focus, continue to stand up for what they believe in and fight for their fights.

He also emphasised the urgent need to combat discrimination and ensure equal opportunities for all, particularly in the marketplace.
