Senior Counsel Rex McKay passed away this morning, reportedly at the Woodlands Hospital. He was 95 years old. McKay was considered one of Guyana’s and the Caribbean finest jurists, a legal eagle as it were. He represented some of the most high profiled cases in the region, one of which was the Guyana Elections Petition of the 1997 General and Regional Elections.
In 2016 McKay was conferred the Order of Roraima for his long, dedicated and outstanding service as a legal practitioner. The Order of Roraima is Guyana’s second highest national award.
His name was recently identified among the Eminent Caribbean Jurist series, the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ) Academy of Law and honoured among 48 outstanding Caribbean lawyers.
McKay was the founder of the law firm McKay and Moore, and also owned WRHM TV Channel 7.
