Georgetown, November 30, 2033: The Caribbean Guyana Institute for Democracy (CGID) has vocally condemned the arrest of Malcolm Harripaul, a political activist, by the Guyana Police Force. The CGID attributes the arrest to directives from the PPP government, criticizing their approach as racially biased and anti-democratic.
Harripaul, who spoke out on Facebook against the PPP’s alleged racial favoritism and misuse of African Guyanese in border disputes with Venezuela, has received a commendation from the CGID for his courage in addressing these sensitive issues. The organization highlights the arrest as an infringement on free speech and democracy, as well as a potential violation of international law, especially given its occurrence during the visit of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights to Guyana.
The CGID’s statement, issued by Director of Communications Richard Millington, Esq., also criticizes the PPP government’s handling of the Venezuela border controversy. They accuse the regime of employing the issue for partisan gains while excluding the opposition from what are portrayed as national solidarity events. In response, the CGID calls for an immediate boycott of all PPP-organized activities related to the border dispute, labeling them as disguised political campaigns.
This incident, as highlighted by the CGID, raises serious concerns about the state of democracy and racial harmony in Guyana, amid growing tensions with neighboring Venezuela.
