Ogunseye Urges National Stand Against Political Fear

By Nicole Telford- Guyana’s Foreign Affairs and International Trade Secretary Robert Persaud is calling on Guyanese consumers to not tolerate disrespect. Persaud in a post on his facebook page stated “this level of unpatriotic and disrespectful behaviour will not be entertained. And Guyanese consumers should not tolerate [it] either. The appropriate authorities have taken note!! Kindly report such incidents as our authorities are on the alert.”

These comments came in wake of a post on his facebook page of an image on a roadside business with the Guyana and Venezuela maps but the Guyana map seems to be slanted and missing some parts. Selling the product is a business named  “Brothers Burger” advertising wings, cheese please, fried fish and burgers, located in Kitty as posted in the comment section of its facebook post.

Based on the post it would seem as if the Foreign Secretary is calling on the public to report any incidents regarding, specifically Guyanese and Venezuelans since the relevant authorities are on alert. Persaud after engaging with commenters on the post wrote “We must locate n remove it immediately” Another comment on the post said “Robert every Vz and Surinamese child are taught in school that the disputed territories are theirs..maps and all. I also think that putting spanish translations on our national vehicles also helps to embolden them. Maduro has election problems and is riling up his population about Essequibo is theirs every day as distraction.”

Several other comments under the foreign secretary’s post supported the view Venezuelans are being emboldened because of the “Policia”  insignia being placed on the vehicles of the Guyana Police Force.
