The time has come for Guyanese to wake up

Dear Editor,

A lynch pin of a functional democracy is captured in the simple advancement of transparency. Our President and his Cabinet, and if my English was imperfect I may have said the President and his cabal boast of leading an administration characterised by transparency. For now allow me to refer to only one current issue, that is, the magic like that of Mandrake of US$214 million to US$3 million.

Trauma, Epigenetics and Healing

The government top braze promised an investigation into what many of us believed is merely the tip of the iceberg in the dealings in the oil and gas sector all the while denying citizens of Guyana to receive the full benefits of our God given resources. I hope that if or when the names of the commission are announced it will be after meaningful, and I repeat, meaningful consultation with the Leader of the Opposition, and that those persons identified will be citizens of rectitude and not subservient to the PPP/C establishment.

The time has come for Guyanese to wake up. The time has come for us to note that we are encircled by a government reminiscent of the effective propaganda of Joseph Goebbels, Hitler’s Ministers of propaganda of the 1940s. And the other Joseph, US Senator Joseph Raymond McCarthy of the 1950s whose technique simply was to repeat something often enough and the masses will soon accept fictions as fact.

Finally, in a true democracy the Minister and or senior persons in the Ministry of Natural Resources would have stepped aside to allow for an unencumbered investigation of this movement to US$214 million to US$3 million.

Yours truly,

Hamilton Green

Former Prime Minister and Mayor of Georgetown
