By former Mayor Pt. Ubraj Narine- President Ali’s recent press conference shed light on his claims that the PPP-led government has invested billions of dollars into GuySuCo, the sugar industry. However, it raises the pertinent question of what GuySuCo is actually doing for the sugar industry. It appears that the PPP-led government is simply using taxpayers’ money to sustain their support base instead of working towards the betterment of GuySuCo. President Ali’s actions towards GuySuCo’s operations are disconcerting and fail to acknowledge the significance of the sugar industry.
●Questionable Allocation of Funds:
While it is commendable that the government has invested billions of dollars into GuySuCo, one must question what tangible outcomes these financial injections have produced. Has the sugar industry seen any significant improvements as a result of these investments? It is crucial to evaluate the effectiveness and management of these funds in order to determine if they are being utilized optimally to benefit the industry and its workers.
●Neglect of GuySuCo’s Importance:
President Ali’s actions towards GuySuCo demonstrate a lack of respect for the sugar industry and its workers. The sugar industry has a rich history and has been a vital pillar of our country’s economy for generations. It not only contributes to our national GDP but also provides employment opportunities, especially in rural regions. Therefore, it is essential that the government treats GuySuCo with the respect it deserves, focusing on sustainable development and the well-being of those involved.
●Misuse of Taxpayers’ Money:
Using taxpayers’ money solely to sustain support bases is not only unjust but also wasteful. The funds allocated to GuySuCo should be used effectively to ensure the growth and sustainability of the industry. This requires adopting strategies for modernization, diversification, and international competitiveness. By neglecting the true needs of the sugar industry and using funds primarily for political gain, the PPP-led government undermines the trust of taxpayers who expect their money to be utilized wisely.
●Respecting the Sugar Industry:
The sugar industry, including GuySuCo, should be treated as a valuable asset rather than a mere means for political advantage. It is imperative that the government, led by President Ali, recognizes the importance of this industry and works towards its improvement with transparency and accountability. The welfare of the sugar industry and its workers should be at the forefront of their agenda, ensuring sustainable growth and fair treatment.
●Conclusion:
President Ali’s actions towards GuySuCo and the sugar industry are disappointing and reflect a lack of respect. The misuse of taxpayers’ money for political gains instead of investing in the industry’s development is simply unacceptable. It is time for the government to focus on the true needs of GuySuCo, working towards the betterment of the sugar industry as a whole. The sugar industry deserves the respect and attention required to secure its long-term sustainability and not use for the PPP political pound.
