On Tuesday, former City Mayor Pt. Ubraj Narine, People’s National Congress Reform, National Congress of Women Chair, Volda Lawrence, MP, and City Councillor Eslyn David distributed school supplies to children in North Sophia, Georgetown as parents prepare them for the new school year.  The trio joined forces on what they described as “a noble mission, aiming to empower children by supporting their education.” Together, they distributed an array of school bags and other much-needed school supplies to those in the community.

This collaborative initiative, envisioned by Narine, Lawrence and  David, came in recognition of the increasing cost of living and difficulties families are facing to afford essentials such as food, school supplies, transportation and paying of bills. Narine told Village Voice News, their contribution would hopefully help in alleviating some of the burden faced by parents in preparing their children for the upcoming school year. “With the rising cost of education, it is pivotal for communities to come together and ensure that educational resources are accessible to all, regardless of their financial circumstances.”

He told this publication the items were well received and the gratitude expressed by children and adults is indicative of how much the society could benefit when persons reach out helping hands to others.  “Excitement filled the air as the young students were provided with brand new school bags and other school supplies.” According to him, the contributions made by the community leaders aim not only to equip students with the necessary tools for learning but also to inspire and motivate them to excel in their studies.
Pt. Narine says he believes in the transformative power of education and its ability to create positive change within communities, and by investing in children’s educational development they are sowing the seeds for a brighter future, nurturing talented minds that will shape tomorrow’s society. Similarly, Lawrence, emphasised the importance of providing a conducive environment for learning. She said, “access to quality education is a fundamental right of every child. By equipping them with school supplies, we aim to create an environment that encourages and supports their educational journey.”
