In observance of the United Nations ‘International Youth Day’, Cricket West Indies (CWI)highlighted and celebrated the potential of our youth as partners in today’s global society and the development of sports.

Through our partnerships with UNICEF Office of the Eastern Caribbean, governments, and other stakeholders such as Republic Bank Limited, children in primary schools across the Caribbean region once again claimed the opportunity to enjoy the outdoors, and also enjoy the region’s favorite sport, cricket – with new exciting grassroots cricket formats such as the Republic Bank ‘Five for Fun’ cricket – designed around the principles of fun, inclusion, equality and holistic development.

With the 2023 International Youth Day theme being “Green Skills for Youth: Towards a Sustainable World”, this linked perfectly into CWI’s youth cricket mandate to ensure that life-skill development and youth empowerment are all encouraged through the game, with awareness of community and green space development being promoted.

With UNICEF’s continued support to build cricket coaching capacity, and Republic Bank’s support to assist with much needed resources to restart grassroots cricket at the primary school level, CWI has been successfully re-engaged over 4,000 boys and girls in cricket activities across various territories, with the aim to increase the games development reach, to many more children and communities in 2024.(CWI)
