Mayor Narine’s Emancipation Message- “We honour those who fought for justice”

Emancipation Day. It is a day that resonates with utmost importance, marking the liberation of our ancestors from the chains of slavery and reminding us of the strength and resilience that has molded our country. Embrace its history, acknowledge its flaws, and cherish the progress we have made. Emancipation Day allows us to reflect on the journey of our forefathers and reaffirm our commitment to a more inclusive and equitable future.

Today, as we honour those who fought for justice, who dreamt of a better tomorrow, and who toiled tirelessly to create a world where freedom is not a privilege but a right for all, it is a moment to pay tribute to the courage and determination of countless individuals who stood up against oppression, despite the numerous challenges they faced.

Let us also use this day as an opportunity to recognise the work that still lies ahead. We must be vigilant against any form of discrimination, prejudice, or social injustice that continues to plague our country. By working hand in hand, we can build a future that offers equal opportunities for every citizen of Guyana, regardless of their background, race, or economic status.
