The Opposition, A Partnership of National Unity and Alliance for Change (APNU+AFC), has flayed the People’s Progressive Party Civic (PPP/C) Government for having no plan on infrastructure development. The Opposition cited the four-lane highway on the East Coast Demerara as evidence of its claim.
According to the Opposition, the manner in which the road is being constructed suggests the government has no plan. And “it is a possibility that it is being pursued for vindictive ends,” noting that “this year and last year the government was rebuilding bridges on that highway, and they are building bridges for a two-lane Highway. “
Raising the issue of competence, the Opposition questioned “Why were you, if you are a competent government, having a plan for a Four-lane Highway in rebuilding the bridges; build bridges for a Two-lane with barriers which you will have to break to put a Four-lane Highway?”
Leader of the Opposition, Aubrey Norton, speaking to the issue last Thursday at his press conference, suggested the government’s decision “could be vindictiveness because there is far more scope behind rather than in front on the Line Top.”
According to him, if a new Four-lane Highway could be built at the back of those villages; it will open new lands and it will be in a much better position and you do not have to disrupt the lives of the people on the Line Top unnecessarily.
“The Opposition believes that this should be relooked that the government is incompetent or vindictive; whichever one there is need for change.”
