Guyana, a den of Iniquity Under the PPP Government

The current state of governance in Guyana under the leadership of Jadgeo and Ali raises serious concerns. While the previous APNU leaders had their shortcomings, the issues surfacing under the current PPP administration are of a different magnitude.

The PPP administration’s decision to dismiss competent public servants based on their racial background or presumed political affiliations has led to a concerning rise in incompetence, corruption, and wastage of taxpayer dollars. Positions of significant responsibility are being handed to party comrades, some of whom lack the necessary skills and qualifications, leading to detrimental effects on society.

Moreover, the lack of thorough investigations into numerous murders raises questions about the administration’s commitment to justice. The resurgence of extrajudicial killings and the seemingly selective application of the cybercrime legislation against political adversaries further tarnish the government’s image.

Investors’ confidence in Guyana is also at stake. The unpredictability of the current administration’s actions could potentially jeopardize their investments, especially if they inadvertently cross paths with the government.

Even supporters of the PPP are beginning to feel the impact of the administration’s actions. The alleged protection of a suspected rapist and the tragic loss of 20 young indigenous children due to the apparent negligence of the Ministry of Education are incidents that have left many feeling helpless and disillusioned.

The fool-heartedly continues to encourage investors to build along the coast as they pointedly ignore any effective projects to strengthen the seawall which protects the coastline from the coming destruction which climate change portends.  In addition, the compromised EPA has little concern for the impact of corporate abuse of the nation’s environment and it’s current and future effects on the health and well-being of the nation’s citizens.  Guyanese are truly at risk.

The PPP’s strategy appears to be focused on transferring the nation’s wealth to a select few while marginalizing African Guyanese and keeping indigenous people in a state of poverty. This strategy is masked by grand infrastructure projects that, are meant to be impressive on the surface, but which in reality will saddle future generations with insurmountable debt.

The current PPP administration’s actions have cast an evil pall over Guyana. The previous coalition government, despite its flaws, did not have the benefit of oil wealth and yet managed to govern more effectively, more even-handedly, and with a view to securing the nation’s patrimony for future generations. The citizens of Guyana must now decide the future they want for their country and how much longer they can endure under the current administration. The PPP government is an existential threat to the future of Guyana.
