The Guyana Police Force has officially announced the launch of an investigation into a grave allegation of rape involving the Minister of Local Government, Mr Nigel Dharamlall. Prompted by the seriousness of the accusation, law enforcement authorities took swift action, resulting in the minister’s arrest on Monday, June 19th, 2023.

Accompanied by his attorney, Mr Dharamlall voluntarily presented himself at the Brickdam Police Station, where he was informed of the specific allegation against him. Following the formal notification, the minister was subsequently taken into custody as part of the ongoing probe.
