I also read the statement made by the Leader of the Opposition and by MP Ms. Geeta Edmonds and by MP Amanda walton-Desir, and they all have made very good points. They have made it clear that they condemn the alleged gruesome act, and I want to join them today. I want to stand with them in solidarity to condemn this act that was alleged meted out to our young Indigenous girl.”
Defending the Rights of Indigenous Girls
As a representative of Guyana’s indigenous people, Williams expressed concern over the lack of recognition and support given to these communities, particularly in the context of protecting the rights of indigenous girls. The MP called on youth organizations, regardless of their political affiliations, to unite in condemning the alleged act committed against the indigenous girl. She implored women’s organizations, non-governmental organizations, the international community, and the diplomatic corps to join forces in standing against this grave injustice. Williams emphasized the power of social media in giving a voice to victims and urged all concerned parties to push for an impartial investigation, potentially involving independent persons, to ensure accountability.
