Since the inception of the new government in 2020, Guyana has been grappling with a series of distressing issues, including fires, suicides, heinous murders, soaring living costs, escalating poverty, and an overwhelming sense of hopelessness that permeates society.
Many supporters of the ruling People’s Progressive Party (PPP) have come to realize that the party they once placed their trust in is more concerned with consolidating wealth from the oil industry for themselves and their well-connected allies in the private sector. Even the visible infrastructure projects being undertaken are marred by substandard workmanship, serving as a poignant reflection of the leadership’s effectiveness.
The PPP leadership, characterized by its anti-intellectual tendencies, revolves around a single figurehead who disregards the input and expertise of other capable individuals within the party. Consequently, this concentration of power in the hands of Jagdeo breeds a toxic combination of pettiness, fear, greed, and malevolent intent, with the populace left to bear the brunt of the calamitous consequences.
Caught in the middle of a ruthless regime and a disorganized opposition consumed by internal disputes, the citizens of Guyana find themselves abandoned to navigate the hardships alone. The absence of unified and principled political forces compounds the challenges faced by ordinary Guyanese, exacerbating their struggles and leaving them devoid of hope for a better future.
As the shadow of despair lingers over the land, it becomes increasingly clear that the plight of the Guyanese people can only be addressed through a collective and resolute effort to overcome the current state of affairs. It is imperative for the citizens of Guyana to rise up and take a stand for themselves. This means standing up in their homes, communities, regions, and country.
Citizens must demand fairness, equity, good governance, and justice. If they fail to do so, there is a risk that their voices will be permanently silenced as oppression and discrimination continue to grip the nation. It is crucial for individuals to put aside personal interests and come together to forge a path towards a brighter and more prosperous future.
