Talented Young Guyanese Alisha Koulen Selected as COP28 International Climate Delegate, Amplifying Youth Voices in Climate Change Policy-Making

Ms. Alisha Koulen, has been chosen as one of the distinguished delegates representing Guyana at the upcoming COP28 International Climate Conference. Alisha’s selection as a COP28 International Youth Climate Delegate is part of a groundbreaking initiative to enhance youth participation from underrepresented groups in climate change policy-making. Ms Koulen is STEMGuyana’s Operations Manager, and according to a recently released statement, ” the STEMGuyana community is thrilled and proud that Alisha is at the forefront, championing youth inclusion in climate policies and representing Guyana on this global stage. Congratulations to her on this remarkable achievement!”

In an effort to expand youth participation and ensure diverse representation in climate change policy-making, the COP28 Presidency UAE announced the selection of 100 delegates for the International Youth Climate Delegate Program. This initiative aims to embed young delegates within the COP process, with a particular emphasis on delegates from countries listed as Least Developed Countries (LDCs), Small Island Developing States (SIDS), Indigenous Peoples, and other minority groups worldwide. The program, led by COP28 Youth Climate Champion Her Excellency Shamma Al Mazrui in collaboration with YOUNGO, the Official Children and Youth Constituency of the UNFCCC, strives to create a model for youth inclusion in the COP process moving forward.

This International Youth Climate Delegate Program stands as the most significant effort to date in expanding youth participation in international climate negotiation processes. The program provides comprehensive capacity-building opportunities for the selected 100 young delegates and fully funds their attendance at COP28, as well as other key milestones in the climate negotiation process. By empowering these delegates and facilitating their active involvement, the program aims to establish a robust framework for youth inclusion in climate policy-making, setting a precedent for future COP conferences.

Alisha Koulen’s selection as a COP28 International Youth Climate Delegate reflects her expertise, dedication, and commitment to addressing climate change issues. Moreover, it acknowledges her ability to represent the interests and perspectives of Guyana’s youth on a global platform. Alisha’s participation in the conference holds immense promise in fostering youth-led initiatives, innovative solutions, and effective climate action strategies within Guyana and beyond.  Congratulations to Alisha Koulen on this well-deserved honor, and best wishes for her endeavors as she attends the COP28 International Climate Conference.
