With social media playing a meaningful part in the dissemination of information and the internet world we live in they both have their purposes, such as exposing the propaganda and deception being peddled by chief deceiver, Mr. Bharrat Jagdeo.
Mr. Jagdeo in his failed attempt continues to misguide and misinform young Guyanese, who knows absolutely nothing of Mr. Jagdeo’s track record as President between 2000-2011, but now comes out as though he is the “best” Guyana has had. However, he has been the WORST President. Don’t tell me about Burnham! I was a child when LFSB died. All my life I spent under the PPPc and there are many horror stories I can tell.
This false narrative of “Coalition Government did nothing for us or David Granger and other named persons who served in the Coalition Government is far from the truth. What Guyanese forget, which I will remind them of, is that the Coalition Government took office in May 2015. To be exact, Mr. David Granger took the oath as Guyana’s eight Executive President on May 16, 2015. At that time, the PPP/C had control of this country for twenty-three (23) years where expenditures were utilised through resources from the Traditional Sectors. When one looks at what was done, we had the following failed projects and scams:
- Charity Wharf floated away
- Skeldon Sugar Factory Expansion
- Fibre Optic Cable
- One Laptop per family
- Amalia Falls… the falls to NOWHERE
- The Dolphin Scam
- VISA Scam
- Jagdeo/SU-Gate
- Corruption Rampage
- High Crime
- Bankrupt CLICO
- Imposed high costs for the use of the Berbice Bridge
- No. Compliance of the Rule of Law
- Guyana has descended to a “Lawless State.”
- Extrajudicial Killings
- LBI, Enmore, Diamond estates were closed.
- Frequent blackouts due to gross incompetence and misfits.
- Denied Guyanese and neglected LGEs for twenty (20) years and installed thirty-eight (38) IMCs.
The above is just a few of what Guyana experienced under Bharrat Jagdeo. This man has no good intentions to unite Guyana. From all the policies rolled out, one can see clearly, it is to sideline and make life difficult for Guyanese, who uphold high moral values and principles, that will never allow the PPPc catch to catch them.
The Coalition Government utilised monies from the traditional resources and the following were done:
- Held two LGEs in less than five years of its term in office.
- Paid 70% in Wages and Salaries for Public Servants
- Built durable roads and bridges. Just to recall, the Moruca Wooden and dilapidated or derelict bridge under the PPPc saw a spanking new “concrete bridge” built by the Coalition Government.
- Decentralized services, including Passport, which saw new buildings were constructed in Regions 6 and 10 respectively.
- Old Age Pension moved from under $15,000.00 in May 2015 to $20,500.00 by December 31, 2019.
- Indigenous youths benefited from the “HYES Programme,” which allowed hundreds of youth to be trained in life skills of their preference. On completion, they were provided certificates and monies were paid to them, which they used to start up a business. A typical example is the Paramakoti Tomato Factory in Region 8.
- Free transportation services were provided to aid parents in getting their child or children to and from school.
- Reduced the Costs for the Berbice Bridge crossing.
- Improved working conditions
- Introduced the Bertrand College to trained young people who wanted to commence a career in the Public Sector.
- Improved performances in NGSA, CSEC and CAPE examinations.
- Reduction in crime
- Non-Political interference in the Disciplined Services.
- Improved relationship between Police and Public.
- Non-Interference in the Constitutional Bodies, including the Judiciary.
- Corruption was not as pervasive as it is now.
- Reduction in illicit trade.
- Improved health services. Built the first COVID-19 hospital in the Caribbean region.
- Began to right side the Sugar Industry
- Procured new gensets for Bartica, Anna Regina and Canefield to address constant blackouts.
I can go on and on!!!! However, the following must be mentioned of:
VAT, which was reduced to 14%; corporate income tax from 30% to 25%, personal income tax from 33% to 27%; increase in personal income tax allowance, increase in VAT threshold from $ 10 million to $15 million.
Also, small businesses would have benefited from the wide range of concessions granted, including reduction of small business corporate tax to 25%, set aside under the public procurement, fiscal concessions for those registered with the small business bureau.
Lest we forget, on recognising that he, Bharrat Jagdeo cannot enjoy a “third term” as President. In an article carried by SN, dated January 31, 2012, under the caption, “Life after the Presidency.” This is what Mr. Jagdeo stated, “he was neither interested in a formal position in the government nor anything full-time.” The report further indicated that Mr. Jagdeo was quite specific in terms of what his preference would be and as quoted, If I were to assist it would be on a pro bono basis and it would only be taking part of my time and he wanted nothing to do with an eight to four job in government.” However, his actions eleven (11) years later speaks volume, since he sat as Leader of the Opposition from May 2015-August 2020 and now an imposed Vice President on the people of Guyana. What do you say to these things and actions? A man who cannot be taken by his own words and one who seems hungry for power and careless how he achieves it!
Lest we forget, it was under the vicious eyes of Mr. Bharrat Jagdeo as Opposition Leader, who according to reports orchestrated and conspired with a Government MP, Mr. Charrandass Persaud tabled a “No Confidence Motion’” against the Coalition Government in December 2018. When this was done, the Coalition Government hands were tied, since it had a budget ONLY for 2019, which was passed one week prior to the passage of the NCM!
Therefore, my brothers and sisters, the Coalition Government had NO access to the “oil money” which the PPP/C regime is squandering and distributing, without any transparency and accountability, as though it’s taken from safe keeping at Freedom House. Time will soon tell, and Mr. Jagdeo and his cabal will be held accountable.
It should be noted that the “oil money” belongs to GUYANESE and by RIGHT, we all should be benefiting. In my view this infinite resource, though blessed by Almighty God, has brought bitterness, greed and division against sections of the Guyanese population.
My plea to you, as the countdown to LGE 2023 closes in, I asked of you, especially my young people to ponder on the facts provided above and do not glue your ears to the constant and continuous LIES by a regime who is hell bent on using you as they “political toys, tools and ponds.” When these elections are over, you must dwell amongst your fellow villagers and community, of which the relationship may not be the same as before, due to the disunity and division caused by those who are selfish, leading up to LGE 2023. It’s TIME you opened your eyes and listened to worthwhile advice.
My appeal to parents, older siblings’ grandparents, aunts, uncles and other relations, let’s have the conversation in the homes. Let’s talk to our young people and show them right from wrong. Let us encourage them to VOTE wisely and make intelligent decisions from an informed decision come Monday, June 12, 2023. Let us discourage them from selling their votes for pickings and pittances. It cannot and will not pay off. Let them know of the importance of their VOTE and what it caused our fore parents, regarding “one man to one VOTE!
Let us protect our Communities!
Let us protect our VOTES!
Let us remain steadfast and Focused on what is to COME!
Let us Get it Right young people!
Let us do the Right thing!!!!
