Georgetown, Guyana (June 1, 2023) – The US Embassy in Georgetown has issued an alert to all US citizens in Guyana regarding an ongoing protest and civil unrest in the Soesdyke (Linden area). The alert states that, “As tensions rise, the road in the vicinity has been blocked off, causing traffic disruptions in both directions. The situation remains tense as of 1:00 pm, and the duration of the protest is uncertain.”

The Guyanese Police Force is present at the scene, working to regain control and ensure public safety. However, the protest is scheduled to continue, further complicating the situation and potentially prolonging the disruption.

  2. Exercise caution if unexpectedly finding oneself near large gatherings or protests.
  3. Stay updated on the latest developments through local media sources.
  4. Maintain a low profile and avoid drawing attention to oneself.

In case of emergency or for further assistance, the US Embassy in Georgetown is available to provide support and guidance.

The US Embassy urges all US citizens in Guyana to remain vigilant and stay informed about the evolving situation. By adhering to the recommended precautions, individuals can minimize potential risks and ensure their personal security during this period of unrest.
