Political Fear Is Guyana’s Elephant in the Room

Dear Editor,
A letter addressed to President Irfan Ali, dated May 8, 2023, penned by Ras Kafra, has been making the rounds on social media was brought to the attention of The Steering Committee of the African Cultural and Development Association (ACDA). Ras Kafra is a sitting member of The Ethnic Relations Commission, and has never reported nor consulted ACDA on any issue related to the ERC’s operations.

However, he has written a letter to the president falsely proclaiming that it evolved after consulting with the African Organisations he purportedly represents at the ERC. ACDA on its part is totally unaware of the genesis of that letter and its content. ACDA further states that no member was identified to be part of a delegation that plans to meet with President Ali.

Further the Steering Committee of ACDA requests that Ras Krafa immediately cease and desist from using the name of ACDA to purport his own agenda without ACDA’s explicit permission and apologise publicly for the misrepresentation of our organization that he has purported.

Yours truly,

Elton McRae
Acting Chair
ACDA Steering Committee
