In an effort to promote the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 3 (Good health and well-being), last Friday, Puran Brothers Disposal Inc, hosted a health fair and blood drive at their Pouderoyen, West Bank Demerara (Region 3) office.
The staff of Puran Brothers benefited from various health services, offered by the Specialist Outreach Medical Team of West Demerara Regional Hospital (WDRH).
At the fair, some of the services offered were: General doctor examination, dental examination, pharmacy, Ear,nose and throat examination, blood pressure testing, blood sugar testing, Tetanus and HPV vaccination and simultaneously a blood drive was conducted.

In keeping with the observance of Occupational Safety and Health month, April of every year, the HSSE department will host a Health fair. However the objectives of this initiative were to; Provide easy access to health check ups for workers at Purans, while ensuring workers gain knowledge on how to live healthy lifestyles.

Workers were immunised and also donated blood thus saving lives, while gaining tremendous health benefits as well.

When asked for a comment, The Management of Puran Brothers Disposal Inc. said they place great emphasis on the health and well-being of their employees and aim to make this an annual event to allow their workers to recognize the importance of healthy lifestyles and to have access to information and guidance from health care professionals.

Coordinator of the medical outreach, Mr. Calvin Roberts, expressed profound gratitude to the Management and staff of Puran Brothers Disposal Inc for their partnership and particularly, for their generous blood donations, noting that the donation surpassed their expectations.

“Each unit of blood has the ability to save three lives but there is also benefits for the donors such as reducing hypertension, reduce the risk of heart attacks and improves one’s mental state, amongst many others,” Roberts told this publication.
